Summary of the Labrador Retriever Breed

Temperment

Labrador Retrievers are known for being friendly, outgoing, and gentle. Let me break down the temperament of a well-bred Labrador for you.

Labradors are highly social and loyal. They love people and because of this they make excellent family pets and are often used as therapy dogs.

Despite their size, Labradors are also quite gentle and patient which makes them a great choice of dog to have around children.

Labradors are highly intelligent and one of the smartest breeds. They are easily trainable and eager to please.

Labradors were originally bred to hunt, and have a higher energy level which requires regular exercise to stay happy and healthy.

A true, well-bred Labrador should never be aggressive or confrontational and they tend to get along with other pets and animals.

Overall, Labradors are a beloved breed due to their wonderful temperament, intelligence and loyalty.

Health

Labradors are generally a healthy breed, but like all breeds, they can be prone to certain health concerns.

Genetic health testing on the parents of your puppy as well as health testing through the Orthopedic Foundation of Animals, can help prevent issues in the offspring. Only the healthiest dogs should be bred.

Also, annual veterinary check-ups help monitor your Labrador's health.

By providing a healthy diet and adequate exercise, will maintain a healthy weight and prevent obesity related health issues.

Regular grooming and ear cleaning can help prevent ear infections as well as coat related health issues. By being aware of these potential health concerns, you can take proactive steps to ensure your Labrador lives a long, healthy, and happy life.

Appearence

Labrador Retrievers have a striking appearance with their sturdy muscular body, broad head, a distinctive otter tail, and a double coat that shines, but is also functional in keeping them warm even in water of low temps.

Labradors typically weigh between 50-80lbs and stand between 21-24 inches.

Their coat is short and dense that comes in only three colors: yellow (which can range from a light cream to a dark red), chocolate, and black.

Labradors are a tough breed with an athletic build, but they still exhibit a certain charm and dignity especially in a well-bred, well-groomed pup, that is moving with confidence!

We do this through breeding dogs that are the perfect representation of the Labrador breed and come from champion pedigrees. We perform health testing on all our breeding dogs for inherited diseases, such as hip and elbow dysplasia, heart and eye diseases. and genetic disorders. All of our breeding dogs are handpicked for specific reasons and are only bred if they have the proper qualifications.

Starting on day one, we socialize our puppies to ensure they are confident and are well prepared to adjust into their new homes by providing a safe, nurturing environment for them to grow and develop.

We vet all the future homes for the puppies to make sure they will be properly taken care of after leaving our home.
